2016 BYOD and Mobile Security Study

Smartphones forever changed how organizations do business today. Thanks to benefits such as increased employee mobility, productivity and satisfaction, we’ve seen a rise of BYOD in the workplace in recent years. But as enterprise mobility and BYOD grow, so do the security concerns and challenges that come with it.

We surveyed over 800 cyber security professionals, who are part of the Information Security Community on LinkedIn, to understand their mobile security challenges, the biggest inhibitors to BYOD adoption, budgetary allocations and implications of mobile security breaches. Here are three of the study’s top findings:

  • 25 percent of the surveyed organizations have no plans to support BYOD, don’t currently offer BYOD or tried but abandoned it.
  • One in five organizations suffered a mobile security breach, primarily driven by malware and malicious WiFi.
  • Security threats to BYOD impose heavy burdens on organizations’ IT resources (35 percent) and help desk workloads (27 percent).
